Senghenydd 20 Vs Brynamawr 24

Brynamwr gained a crucial bonus point win and also recorded their 6th win of the season in a hard and dour contest.
The home team had first use of a strong wind and used the elements to go in with an eight point lead curteousy of a penalty and a try, Brynamwr will be dissapointed with there decision making and lack of cutting edge in a first half which saw both teams down to 14 men after Nolan Nicklin and the home sides second row recieved reds for their parts in a brawl.
The second half started with brynmawr intent on improving their first half display and they quickly reduced the deficit when Nicky Strange crossed for the first of three individual tries. With the brynmawr forwards imposing their dominance on the game both in the loose and the set piece, captain Damian Hudd crossed from a driving lineout. The backs now provided with some clean ball made the home side pay as Nicky Strange added a further 2 tries to his personal tally. Late on brynmawr lost Sipho Nobatano to the bin for not retreating 10 meters and the home side crossed for a bonus point late on.
Brynamwr will be disapointed with the performance but in picking up 4 points they are up to 2nd behinf the Garn, with the next two outings against Garn and Abergavenny.

Brynmawr Youth v Beaufort Youth

The youth followed the seiniors win against Nelson with a victory over local rivals beaufort 26 - 0. Robert Samuel, Dan Davies, Stuart Rickwood and Damian Bush crossed for the tries with Jarrod Seale converting 3.

Nelson 10 Brynmawr 34

Brynmawr completed their league program for September the way they started it with a deserved victory over Nelson.

Brynmawr opened the scoring with a Mathew Bow penalty after three minutes. However Nelson then upped the tempo and crossed for two unconverted tries, things getting worse for Brynmawr when they lost prop Dean Jones to a serious ear injury which required nineteen stiches. The injury forced Brynmawr to play a hooker at prop but this did not seem to matter as Brynmawr grabbed the game by the scruff of the kneck and started to impose themselves. With a good platform finally being layed by the forwards, the backs produced some clinical and decisive attacks which resulted in tries from Sipho Nobatano, Mathew Penny and Richard Addiss, the Nobatano try was particularly pleasing for the coaches with some excellent handling and finished with devastating pace. Bow converting two of the tries to give Brynmawr a 24 - 10 lead at half time.

The second half was a scrappy affair Brynmawr lost flanker Gavin Knapp halfway through for a high tackle which put Brynmawr under a bit of pressure. With the clock running down Brynmawr finally struck in the 79th minute to clinch a deserved bonus point. Tom Vedmore palming off the Nelson wing before running the length of the field, Mathew Penny converted to end the match.

Brynamwr Vs Rhymney

Brynmawr 27 Rhymney 5

Brynmawr carried on their fine start to the season with a well deserved victory over local rivals Rhymney. The early exchanges were even but brynmawr started to gain the upper hand up front with Dean Jones, Gareth Coles and Mathew Shaw all putting in excellent performances. Alec Teere and skipper Damian Hudd were also starting to control the opposition and home lineouts allowing Steve Evans (No. 8) and Richard Addiss (No. 9) to dictate the play.

Brynmawr Scored the first ponts through Mathew Penny, who crashed over from a well worked blinside move, that was clearly a product of the hard work put in on the training paddock. Soon after outside half Bow extended the lead with a well struck penalty. Rhymney then got themselves back in the game with a try just before half time, Brynmawr will be dissapointed that there was not more light between the two sides at the interval.

It got worse for Brynmawr after the break whenthey lost Richard Addis after being sin binned which seemed a little harsh. But after weathering a minor storm skipper Hudd rallied the team and the response was immediate. Nobatano recieved the ball out wide and had far too much gas for the Rhymney wing who could only watch the former sprint 60 meters with Bow converting. Then Bow further extended the lead with a long range penalty before Steve Evans sealed the victory with a injury time try making it two in two for the Brynamawr back row man.

The coaches are pleased with the way that the players have responded this season both in traing and the two victories however they know that it would be foolish to rest on there laurels and there is much hard work to be done if the team are to be challenging at the end of the season.

Nect up for Brynmawr is Nelson away, which will be another tough test for the Blaenau Gwent side.

Brynmawr Vs Pontllanfraith

Pontllanfraith 0 v Brynmawr 44

Brynmawr got their season off to the perfect start in glorious sunshine, gaining the maximum 5 points when they overwhelmed the hosts.

Brynmawr got off to the perfect start when Steve Evans broke from a scrum on the half way line and raced into the 22 before giving Richard Addiss a scoring pass which was converted by outside half Matthew Bow. Bow shortly then extended the lead with a penalty as the visitors started to impose themselves on the game. The hosts had no answer to the 15 man running rugby and Brynmawr treated their supporters to glimpses of what they may achieve this season, and crossed for a further two tries from Sipho Nobatano and Steve Evans both converted by Bow. The only surprise was that it took Brynmawr until the 60th minute to extend their lead and gain the bonus point for scoring their fourth try, when from an attacking move by Pontllanfraith Bow intercepted in his 22 and raced clear for a try. The hosts had no answer to the pace and power of the Brynmawr team and conceaded a further three tries in the last quarter scored by Steve Evans and another try each from Addiss and Nobatano, to bring an end to an excellent first day result and performance from Brynmawr.
