Nelson 10 Brynmawr 34

Brynmawr completed their league program for September the way they started it with a deserved victory over Nelson.

Brynmawr opened the scoring with a Mathew Bow penalty after three minutes. However Nelson then upped the tempo and crossed for two unconverted tries, things getting worse for Brynmawr when they lost prop Dean Jones to a serious ear injury which required nineteen stiches. The injury forced Brynmawr to play a hooker at prop but this did not seem to matter as Brynmawr grabbed the game by the scruff of the kneck and started to impose themselves. With a good platform finally being layed by the forwards, the backs produced some clinical and decisive attacks which resulted in tries from Sipho Nobatano, Mathew Penny and Richard Addiss, the Nobatano try was particularly pleasing for the coaches with some excellent handling and finished with devastating pace. Bow converting two of the tries to give Brynmawr a 24 - 10 lead at half time.

The second half was a scrappy affair Brynmawr lost flanker Gavin Knapp halfway through for a high tackle which put Brynmawr under a bit of pressure. With the clock running down Brynmawr finally struck in the 79th minute to clinch a deserved bonus point. Tom Vedmore palming off the Nelson wing before running the length of the field, Mathew Penny converted to end the match.
